Thanks for posting this article, Jon. I read it last year, but certainly needed a refresher in light of what we’ve been talking about.
As you know I founded and continued as a member of Redeemers first church plant ever, The Village Church, in 1995. Through ups and downs and three pastors, we were always committed to being in the city and for the city, as well as counter-cultural towards the city. That’s why when it seemed right to move back to the Fort, we chose downtown as our focus, both residentially and vocationally, and even, perhaps, spiritually.
My two favorite quotes from Tim are: “More Christians should live long-term in cities.” and, “Christians should be a dynamic counterculture.” That’s so right on!

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. Jeremiah 29:7
